A bold wall cladding choice for this coastal home

A Stunning Coastal Property in Lonsdale.

This stunning property, located in the seaside town of Point Lonsdale, combines classic charm with contemporary style. This is the latest success from David McDonald Builders, who have utilised Millboard composite cladding to create a clean, natural finish that is both durable and pleasing to the eye.

This Australian coastal design blends seamlessly into the local area and landscape and represents an incredible feat in engineering from all involved, particularly when it comes to external cladding.

Alternative timber look product

David McDonald on building his family home  “We were looking for a high quality, unique and sustainable product, that had a natural character to complement our contemporary design. Natural timbers have been a major component of our homes for decades, but we have been searching for an alternative timber look product that can stand up to the extreme coastal environment we work in.

Millboard cladding is the only product that could supply us with a high quality, real timber grain look, with a bold and interesting profile that could achieve our performance requirements. Highlighly recommended.”

Key Design Features: Composite Timber Cladding.

While many people dream of living by the coast, coastal properties are often exposed to intense sunlight, harsh winds, storms, and heavy rainfall.  This means that the materials used in their construction, such as house cladding, must be able to stand the test of time.

There are many different types of wall cladding to choose from, depending on the desired property aesthetic, finish and requirements. For this project Envello Golden Oak Board & Batten was selected for its natural timber look, as well as eliminating concerns with decaying, movement, shrinkage, colour consistencies and maintenance.

There are many benefits associated with using millboard cladding in the construction of both commercial and residential properties. Not only is this cladding type pleasing to the eye and highly durable, but it’s easy to maintain, too. For example, the chamfered cut profiles allow rain to wash the boards, meaning there’s little need for manual cleaning.

Those looking for cladding that looks as traditional and natural as possible will likely favour Board & Batten cladding, which is moulded from four individual pieces of timber, each of which has a unique pattern. This is used to create wall cladding that is both eye-catching and durable. Another major benefit of this cladding choice is its quick install time.

Other cladding options include Envello Shadow Line cladding, which has a flat grain finish. All design choices can then be elevated through the inclusion of corners, trims, and Fascia, which tie the entire project together and allow for a picture-perfect finish.
